Independent systems & automation consultant

Get more out of the systems you already run.

Custom NetSuite development for teams already live on the platform, plus dashboards, integrations, and automation for small businesses running on anything else — one accountable consultant, not a handover chain.

How Firewheel operates

Three ways to work together

Every engagement fits one of three models, chosen based on how much ongoing support a business actually needs — not a fixed package forced to fit.

Ongoing Support Agreement

A standing monthly arrangement for businesses that need reliable, continuous NetSuite support — a consistent allocation of time each month covering scripting, troubleshooting, and the small changes that keep operations moving, with one dependable point of contact.

Ad Hoc Support Agreement

For businesses that need help as things come up, without a standing monthly commitment — engaged on request for specific fixes, questions, or short pieces of work, billed for the time it actually takes.

Custom Project Implementation

A scoped piece of work with a defined outcome — a new integration, a reporting build, a process automation — delivered end to end from design through to production support.

Capabilities

Where I sit on a project

Custom development and process work on the NetSuite instance you're already running. Most requirements land between functional consulting and technical development, and that gap is where I work.

01

Solution architecture

Business process analysis and solution design within your existing NetSuite instance — configuration and optimisation that fits how NetSuite already works.

02

SuiteScript development

SuiteScript 2.x, Suitelets, Map/Reduce scripts, User Events, and scheduled automation — plus REST API and OAuth integrations to connect NetSuite with the rest of the stack.

03

Financial & operational process

Financial process design, reconciliation and reporting; manufacturing, inventory, warehousing and order management; data migration, CSV processing and transaction automation.

04

Controls & production support

Auditability, exception management and error recovery built in from the start, plus ongoing system troubleshooting and production support once you're live.

Small business automation

Systems & automation, more broadly

The same skill set applied wherever a business needs it — automation, reporting, and systems that talk to each other properly.

Custom dashboards & reporting

Purpose-built dashboards that pull real numbers from the tools you already run — revenue tracking, operational reporting, and the views a spreadsheet can't give you.

Systems integration

Connecting the platforms a small business actually uses — accounting, e-commerce, booking and POS systems — so data moves between them without manual re-entry.

Workflow & document automation

Automating the repetitive parts of running a business — invoicing, reconciliation, scheduled reports — built around how you actually work, not a rigid template.

Rapid, AI-assisted builds

Custom tools built and iterated fast using AI-assisted development — meaning small business budgets can get purpose-built software, not just off-the-shelf compromises.

What I've built

Solution experience

Across beverage manufacturing, brewing, distribution, retail, warehousing, professional services, and multi-site fitness operations.

Financial automation

Automated invoice, credit memo, journal, payment and refund processing; high-volume financial integrations and transaction-import frameworks; accrued purchases reconciliation and variance write-off workflows.

Operations & logistics

Warehouse and logistics integrations using configurable API and location mappings; production planning and rapid production-order entry tools.

Reporting & dashboards

Timesheet, utilisation and regional performance reporting; sales, finance and operational dashboards; employee access, training, compliance and performance-management portals.

Reliability tooling

Bulk processing, monitoring and recovery tools for business-critical processes; automated controls for duplicates, retries, validation failures and incomplete transactions.

Approach

How an engagement runs

The same seven steps whether it's a quick fix or a multi-part custom project — working closely with business stakeholders, finance teams, operational users, and technical resources throughout.

01

Understand the outcome

Start with the business outcome and the current process, not the ticket.

02

Identify the requirements

Pin down the underlying data, system, and control requirements the outcome depends on.

03

Design the solution

Build something that fits naturally within NetSuite, rather than fighting it.

04

Develop or coordinate

Build the technical components directly, or coordinate the resources that do.

05

Test against reality

Run real operational scenarios and reconcile the results before anyone relies on it.

06

Deploy with controls

Ship with appropriate monitoring, error handling, and documentation from day one.

07

Support & evolve

Keep supporting and improving the solution as the business changes around it.

Why Firewheel

Four disciplines, one consultant

Four disciplines that are usually spread across separate resources — combined in one accountable consultant.

1Operational understanding

Five years as Head of Technology inside a brewery and manufacturing business — an internal leader's view of whether a solution actually works in practice, not just on paper.

2Financial & NetSuite knowledge

Five years as a Senior Functional Consultant and Technical Team Leader, run alongside independent contract work — the accounting and process fluency that sits underneath every good solution design.

3Solution architecture & SuiteScript

Hands-on across SuiteScript 2.x, integrations, and custom development — able to work through the detailed implementation, not just the design brief.

4Practical delivery & stakeholder management

Solutions built to be usable and supportable — clear dashboards, guided interfaces, meaningful validation messages, and detailed diagnostics when something goes wrong.

About

About Firewheel

Firewheel Consulting is an independent systems and automation practice run by Alex Peart, based in Kirra on the Gold Coast — 12+ years in technology and consulting, including five years as Head of Technology inside a brewery and manufacturing business, and 5+ years running independent contract work alongside a Director of Development role at a separate NetSuite partner firm.

That blended experience is deliberate: Alex has sat on both sides of a NetSuite project — as the consultant delivering the solution, and as the internal business leader accountable for whether it actually works once it's live.

Work splits between direct engagements with medium-sized businesses and subcontracted work through a business partner on complex enterprise NetSuite problems — the kind that need deep technical judgment as much as configuration skill. Every engagement is delivered end to end by one person: architecture, development, testing, training, and documentation.
